History and Culture
Theth has been inhabited for centuries and has maintained much of its traditional way of life. The village is home to the famous Lock-in Tower, or "Kulla e Ngujimit," a centuries-old stone structure used in the practice of blood feuds, a custom that was once widespread in northern Albania. Today, the tower serves as a museum, offering visitors a glimpse into the region’s complex history and traditions.
One of the most famous natural attractions in Theth is the Grunas Waterfall, a stunning 30-meter-high cascade that’s a favorite among hikers. Theth National Park, which surrounds the village, is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, offering numerous hiking trails with breathtaking views of the Albanian Alps. The hike from Theth to Valbona Valley is particularly popular, taking trekkers through some of the most spectacular landscapes in the Balkans.
Theth is more than just a picturesque village; it’s a living museum of Albania’s mountainous north, where history and nature intertwine. Whether you’re hiking through its stunning landscapes or exploring its cultural landmarks, Theth offers an unforgettable experience that’s well worth the effort to reach.
