Tirana, Albania, 25 November 2021
One of the biggest world’s aviation group Lufthansa Group has transported 303,721 passengers from March 2020 until October 2021 to and from Tirana International Airport since the aviation had a breakdown from the pandemic crises. This successful number comes from Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, Edelweiss and SWISS, part of Lufthansa Group, providing major hub airports in Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna and Zurich, thereby offering onward connections to Albania to the whole world.
To mark the occasion of the excellent cooperation between Tirana International Airport and Lufthansa Group during the difficult period from March 2020 marked by flight restrictions due to COVID-19 in the aviation business, a joint press conference “Best partners in challenging times” is organized in the premises of Tirana International Airport.
“We remain committed to working with Lufthansa Group in sharing ideas and opinions across all channels to generate incremental opportunities for our clients and investment in new destinations from Tirana. Whilst we quite rightly celebrate our joint achievements, in these challenging times we should call out how to quickly recover and create possibilities for our passengers to fly more and to feel safe even in these very special times. We remain strongly committed to our partnership with the Lufthansa Group. Lufthansa’s name has been always a guarantee for quality and reliability and it will remain so" said Dr. Constantin von Alvensleben, Chief Executive Officer of Tirana International Airport.
“Lufthansa Group is a reliable and strong partner for our Albanian guests and for Tirana Airport,” said Peter Pullem, Senior Director Sales Eastern Europe Lufthansa Group. “We are committed to Albania since 28 years and we know about our responsibility to connect Tirana with our world-wide network. This was even more important during the pandemic, as it became visible how important it is to connect people and deliver goods. We resumed our flights together with the support of Tirana Airport last year as early as possible. Today we are happy to welcome more and more passengers to and from Albania. With our constantly extended schedule in Tirana, every customer has now multiple choices of 34 weekly departures from Albania to our four hubs and beyond to almost every airport in the world.”
Despite the pandemic times during 2020-2021, some milestones have been signed between Lufthansa Group and TIA:
· Austrian Airlines was the 1st one to restart flights to Tirana 15th of June 2020 after a 3 months’ full lock-down and has from then on served stable flight connections during all the pandemic period.
· In 2021, Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines have increased by 50 percent the capacity offered with more frequencies to and from Vienna and Frankfurt.
· In 2021 Lufthansa also introduced a nonstop connection to Munich.
· Latest entrant was SWISS, commencing a service to Zurich last September 2021.
· Lufthansa Group is serving Tirana with three carriers to the four hubs Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna and Zurich.
Customers in Albania can book all 34 weekly connections via the airlines websites or in many travel agencies. Ticket prices for a return flight start at 106.21 €, ALL. The route network is almost fully resumed, also to the USA with 19 destinations all with just one stop via the hubs.
Travelers can make a personal contribution to climate protection and make their air travel CO2 neutral. In addition to the option of offsetting the flight via high-quality climate projects, Lufthansa guests can already fly with sustainable fuel today. The airlines of the Lufthansa Group have integrated the options into the booking process. Frequent flyers can find them in the Miles & More app. Further information is available at https://compensaid.com
