- Airport celebrating an important milestone for the country

This November, Tirana International Airport (TIA) was swathed in red and black. Along with the rest of the country, the Airport has celebrated the 100 years of independence of the Albanian state. The colours of the national flag have been placed throughout the terminal building, warmly welcoming all of the Airport’s passengers. The terminal façade was dressed also in a huge Albanian flag, warmly dedicated to this important milestone for the country.
“This is an event that calls for huge celebrations. It is a great honour for me to participate in such crucial moments of this country, which has slowly grown on me as well. The Airport is a great supporter of progress, development and constructive change, which is why we are supporting these celebrations in honour of what the 100 years have brought to Albania,” said Andrea Gebbeken, TIA Chief Executive Officer.
Meanwhile, all those passing close to the terminal have been attracted by a red vintage aircraft parked by and painted in the colours of the Albanian flag, reminding us of a long history of aviation in this country. This historical gift is dedicated to this last century of history and to the country’s impressive independence celebrations. The aeroplane is an Antonov 2, a light utility transporter designed in 1946, and brought here to TIA from Kuçova air base.
The placement of aircraft was a joint initiative of Tirana International Airport and Military Air Force of Rinas. A small ceremony took place on this occasion.
“I am very happy that we have succeeded in realizing this great idea of the aircraft painted in red and black. A lot of people worked for this project and I would like to thank all of them. This aircraft it is also a symbol of our successful partnership that has been developed over the years and hopefully will continue in the future” said the General of the Air Force of Rinas Mr. Dhori Spirollari during the ceremony.
